That’s Barack Obama and me back in the day, and it’s safe to say a lot’s happened since then. My name is Raja Krishnamoorthi. I’m a brown guy with a funny name from Peoria, Illinois, running for U.S. Senate to fight for a better future for hardworking Americans.When I first started working for President Obama, it was a far cry from where he’d eventually end up. Back then, almost everyone thought he had no chance of winning. He was a straight-shooter with a “funny name,” about as different from mainstream politicians as they come. We had a lot in common. I’d never thought that someone like me could run for office, but he made me believe. So when he asked me to help out on his long-shot Senate campaign, I had to say yes. The rest, as all of you know, is history.
Today, I know it can seem like we’re a long way away from the era of “hope and change.” I certainly miss having a President who believes in democracy and progress — not chaos and cruelty. Right now, it’s clear that we need real leaders with a backbone to stand up to Donald Trump’s insanity and fight for the same issues that President Obama championed. Because every family — regardless of who they are, where they live, or how funny their name might sound — deserves the chance to work hard and succeed. That’s why I’m running for Senate. And it’s why I’m asking you to take a chance on another brown guy with a funny name from Illinois.Will you chip in $5, $25, or whatever you can to power our grassroots campaign?
