Raja Update 11/10

Dear Sandeep,

Happy Diwali and Happy Veterans Day!

Last Thursday, Congressman Raja met with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and others in Washington to discuss the need for federal aid to deal with the influx of migrants in US cities. After the meeting, the Congressman explained, "many mayors, including Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson are asking that cities and states be allocated $5 billion in emergency funding to help them with the influx of new arrivals."

Also on Thursday, the Daily Herald reported that Congressman Raja's efforts in getting some of his constituents' relatives safely out of the Gaza Strip paid off. While this is great news, the Congressman acknowledged that his work is not done, noting that "just as my team and I have worked with Emilee's family on a daily basis, we will continue to work with the dozens of other families we are still assisting as they also seek safety."

On Friday, Congressman Raja published an op-ed in The Hill on high-tech competition with China. He wrote that "despite serious flaws in our system, the U.S. remains the country of choice for the world's most talented experts in emerging fields," but "we need to make it easier for foreign high-tech workers to stay in the U.S. while we invest more in STEM education for American students and workers."

On Monday, Congressman Raja joined the Center for Strategic & International Studies for a lengthy discussion on US-China relations. He noted that "we have to pursue smart, informed policy that lowers the temperature but at the same time produces progress."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
