Dear Sandeep,
On Wednesday, Congressman Raja joined CNN to discuss the overwhelmingly bipartisan 352-65 vote passage of his bill forcing a divestment of TikTok by ByteDance. The Congressman remarked, "This bill is not a ban -- it's about a divestiture. It's really not about TikTok, it's about Bytedance, which is basically controlled by the CCP. Once this bill were to become law, Bytedance would sell off enough ownership... and then the app would continue to operate."
Congressman Raja also appeared on All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC to address security concerns posed by TikTok and their relation to the Chinese Communist Party. While there, the Congressman remarked on whether a divestiture would happen, "Whatever happens, it's obviously up to ByteDance and it's up to Beijing - we don't want Beijing to control this platform."
Finally, Congressman Raja went on Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC to further elaborate on his bipartisan TikTok divestment legislation. Talking to the two, the Congressman stated, "There's no First Amendment right to espionage - the First Amendment covers speech, not conduct, and certainly not anybody's right - including the CCP's - to use the platform to do harm to Americans."
We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
