Raja Update 5/12

Dear Sandeep,

Last Friday, Congressman Raja led a panel at Harper College on the value of public service careers that are under attack from DOGE. In the Daily Herald he said, "People are saying, 'What can I do… How can I make a difference and how can we get back to a better place?' You can find common ground with just about everyone."

On Wednesday, Congressman Raja announced his bid to succeed longtime Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin. In the Chicago Sun-Times he said, "I've made it my mission to fight for families like the ones I grew up with people who just want a chance to work hard and realize their dreams…I'll never be quiet while billionaires like Elon Musk and a convicted felon deny the dreams of the next generation for their own egos and personal profit."

Later on Wednesday, Congressman Raja joined NPR to discuss why he entered the Illinois Senate race. He said, "The fact that tens of thousands of people have entrusted me with their hard-earned money because they believe in my office. They believe in my mission… I think people have seen that. They have entrusted me with resources to pursue that mission… I look forward to having the resources to be able to defend my track record and be able to get our message out as well."

On Thursday, Congressman Raja joined ABC7 Chicago to discuss why he is running for the U.S. Senate. He said, "After what we saw in the first 100 days of Donald Trump, the chaos… I thought that I was the right person for the moment to stand up to him, and basically stand up for the American dream and making sure that people who otherwise think it's out of their grasp because of Trump's policies... are able to access it the same way that my family did."

On Friday, Congressman Raja returned home to Peoria to kick off his U.S. Senate campaign in the place it all started. In WMBD Radio, he said "This is the community that really shaped who I am today… It taught me the values of respect and helping each other.  I would not be who I am, but for Peoria."

Also on Friday, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi secured the first labor endorsement of the U.S. Senate primary in Illinois, earning the support of Local 881 United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). Covered in Capitol Fax, He said, "From the aisles of our grocery stores to our favorite neighborhood restaurants and shops, Local 881 UFCW keeps Chicago and Illinois running. They are doing the essential work to ensure hardworking Illinoisans have safe, good-paying jobs that you can support a family on. Local 881 is setting the standard for what it means to protect working families, and I am deeply honored to have earned their support."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
