On Tuesday night, I called Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton and congratulated her on winning this primary. I trust that she will continue the lasting legacy that Senator Durbin leaves behind and offer her my full support on the road ahead. This isn't the result we'd hoped for, but I am still filled with immense gratitude. I'm proud of the race we ran, and I'm honored by the support we received in every corner of this state.
Most of all, I'm grateful to folks like you, who have stood with me every step of the way. I'm grateful for every person who knocked doors, talked to their neighbors, and the nearly 90,000 grassroots donors who powered this campaign. This campaign may be over, but my gratitude and friendship will be forever. I want to leave you with this: Only in America can an immigrant kid with twenty-nine letters in his name go from living in public housing and relying on food stamps to serving in the halls of Congress. But right now, those ideals are under threat like never before. No matter what, I will continue to fight for our country, the greatest on Earth, to make the United States of America the kind of country we all still believe in.
