8/24 Raja Update

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

In light of ongoing attacks on the USPS, and delivery standards significantly down, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is fighting tirelessly to repair the damage done and prevent more. Issues like first class mail being left on floors and mail sorting machines being removed, especially in light of President Trump's comments about mail-in voting, are leaving many worried about the upcoming election. On CNN, Congressman Raja said, "The fact that he would not commit to reversing the changes and damage that has already been done, is a testament to the fact that we can't take it at his word fully. There are hundreds of mail sorting machines that have been decommissioned -- some even claim they have been destroyed. We want to know where they are and whether he will commit to putting them back in place. Same with the blue mailboxes. Hundreds and hundreds have been removed in his very short tenure of being Postmaster General." Congressman Raja also spoke with John on WGN Radio as well as MSNBC to discuss the frustrations many are feeling with mail-in voting. In addition, POLITICO and NPR feature a letter from Congressman Raja and Congresswoman Katie Porter describing how the appointment of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was highly irregular. Raja will continue to maintain oversight over the USPS.

With the DNC Convention now behind us, Vice President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have officially accepted the nomination for President and Vice President, respectively. Kamala Harris is the first person of Indian heritage to accept the nomination for Vice President with a major party. Congressman Raja spoke with USA Today and Chicago Tribune to discuss Harris's background, Indian American culture, and pronunciation of her name (comma-la). He told VICE, "She has done a very good job talking about her mother's family...I saw pictures of her mother's family and Kamala among them, and it looks like a picture straight out of my family's album...The more she can continue to talk about [her heritage] and develop people's understanding of what her life was like and how it was influenced by being raised by an Indian mother and having so much time around Indian culture, I think that will be powerful."

We'll continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in DC and Illinois.
