8/10 Raja Update

We hope is all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

As we approach November's election, many are concerned that foreign interference will mar the 2020 election as it did in 2016. The ODNI (Office of the Director of National Intelligence) released a statement on this election's threats. Three countries were singled out as threats in 2020: China, Russia, and Iran. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spoke on MSNBC saying, "I'm glad that they [ODNI] provided additional information, but the way that it was structured makes it look like all three countries have equal capabilities and are undertaking equal amounts of effort to interfere in our elections [when in fact they are not]….we're going to continue to talk to the agencies in the intelligence community that have direct factual knowledge about current efforts and continue to make sure they do everything they can to police against what's happening. In addition, we have to make sure our social media platforms are safeguarded from disinformation efforts by these powers and others - and we have to provide vital security assistants to states and local jurisdictions that are conducting these elections." Congressman Raja will continue to work to ensure that our elections are as safe as possible.

Congressman Raja has been very supportive of efforts to provide additional relief to the American people during this COVID crisis. He spoke to WGN last week about talks regarding the same.

Additionally, Congressman Raja is pushing for a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine. He has introduced legislation requiring the FDA to consult with an independent panel of experts (that already exists in the FDA) to review a COVID vaccine before it is available to the public. This legislation springs from fears that the Trump White House might try to push through a vaccine before the November election for political reasons even if the vaccine is not safe and effective. ABC News quoted the Congressman saying, "While it is essential that a COVID-19 vaccine become available to the public as quickly as possible, it is even more important that quality is not sacrificed for speed in testing and evaluating any such vaccine." Congressman Raja will continue to advocate for a safe vaccine for the American people.
