Dear Friend,
We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.
This week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi appeared on CNN with Host Jake Tapper. Jake asked the Congressman about the possibility of a bill tying together COVID relief funding and more aid President Biden has requested for Ukraine. The Congressman responded that, "I think we absolutely have to combat COVID. Not only here in the United States where we are starting to run out of funds to buy treatments and vaccines, but also across the world if we're going to end this pandemic, and I'm helping to lead the fight there... I think that the package should involve Ukraine and of course the COVID aid so we can actually get out of this pandemic."
Congressman Raja also joined This Morning's radio show host John Williams to comment on the pending decision regarding Roe v. Wade. The Congressman told John, "Well I think that it's a decision that, if it's handed down, will go down in history just like Plessy v. Ferguson or some other disreputable decision. This is a sacred fundamental right that the Supreme Court could overturn, namely the right of a woman to choose and have control over her body and reproductive freedom."
Congressman Raja penned an op-ed in The Hill this week about a problem that thousands of Illinoisans face - robo-text scams that cost consumers billions. The Congressman wrote that, "Unfortunately, millions of Americans are fooled by such scams each year. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), 2.2 million Americans reported losses totaling $3.3 billion to digital fraud in 2020 — a 73 percent increase from one year earlier... That's why I will soon introduce a bill in Congress to give the FCC the authority it needs to crack down on robo-texters and the many scam artists who have flocked to that method to steal from unsuspecting recipients of their messages."
Congressman Krishnamoorthi also joined MSNBC to discuss the ongoing investigation into what happened during the January 6th riots and how to hold those individuals accountable. From an Oath Keeper member's testimony, we now know that the militia-like group wanted to urge Trump to use them to forcibly stop the transfer of power. "I think it's shocking. I have two reactions, one is: what did Donald Trump or someone in the White House say in the way of encouragement for them to believe that Donald Trump would actually provide this assistance on January 6th to the Oath Keepers? Second, who was that person that was so close to Donald Trump that they thought that he or she could actually influence the President to do what they asked? It goes to show that their linkages to the White House was greater than we thought before."
