“Deport Every Indian”That’s what a sitting Republican elected official proudly said, along with other hateful, racist remarks. My name is Raja (RAH-JUH, in case you find a four-letter name hard to pronounce like Mr. Langevin), and I’m an immigrant. I’m also a proud American, and I’m running to serve my state of Illinois in the U.S. Senate. But dangerous attacks like the one above are setting a dangerous precedent for Indian Americans – and frankly, all people of color. Their words carry weight. And while I’ve become used to the hate speech, the ridiculous calls for mass deportation of Indian Americans, and the outright racial profiling, I’m doing everything in my power to change that reality for my children – and the next generation. Because let’s be clear: When folks use cruel tactics and racial profiling like this, they’re not just coming after me – they’re coming after anyone who doesn’t fit their narrow definition of what an American looks like. I’m a proud citizen of the United States, but because of the rhetoric coming straight from Donald Trump and the far-right movement, people are questioning whether I belong in this country or on the floor of the U.S. Senate. This isn’t just politics. This is personal. My family came to this country when I was three months old, chasing the American Dream. The Illinois community gave me a chance. Public schools gave me an education. This country gave my family hope. So here’s what these small-minded individuals don’t understand: I love this country enough to fight like hell for it. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. I’ve spent every single day taking on the racist bullies in charge. I stood up to Kristi Noem when she tried to dodge accountability for the treatment of immigrants. I had the police called on me for trying to inspect ICE facilities. I’ve called out Trump’s illegal ICE raids and his attacks on immigrant communities. I drove cross-country to cast my vote against Trump’s agenda. I’ve questioned his officials in hearings, condemned his illegal tariffs, and introduced legislation to repeal his devastating cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. I refuse to back down. I refuse to be intimidated. And I refuse to let hate win. That’s why I’m running for Senate.Right now, we need leaders who will rise up to meet the threat of the MAGA movement head-on. Leaders who know that any attack on any community is an attack on us all. Here’s the deal: the 2026 midterms are our chance to take back the House, flip the Senate, and end Trump’s unchecked power. The only thing standing between us and a blue wave? A $300 million warchest dedicated to defeating Democrats like me. There’s no doubt in my mind, they’ll use every dollar to prop up the same racist extremists who are attacking me right now. The only way we fight back is together – with a massive grassroots movement of people who believe that hate has no place in American politics. So I’m asking you directly: Are you ready to fight like hell with me? If you want leaders who refuse to be scared away by hateful words – who’ll stand up for every American, no matter what their name sounds like or where they came from – I need you in this fight with me. I’m a proud American citizen. And I’m not going anywhere. Thank you for standing with me, Raja Krishnamoorthi |
