I never thought I'd have to defend our democracy from a violent mob inside the Capitol building. I joined the Capitol Police 16 years ago because I wanted to serve and protect the place where our democracy happens. I swore an oath to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I could have never expected that oath would lead me to fight Donald Trump's insurrectionists on January 6th, 2021. For hours, I was immersed in a profane mix of sweat, screams, shrieks, anger, death, fear, blood, broken limbs, spit, hatred, horror, racism, and bigotry as Trump's violent mob attacked my fellow officers and tried to overturn a free and fair election. Donald Trump did NOTHING to stop them. For three hours, he watched on TV while we were beaten bloody. But I had confidence that I could stand strong. I knew that this is America, and here, we stand for what's right.
A lot has happened since that day in 2021. I testified before Congress about what really happened. I spoke truth to power while some of the same people I protected tried to rewrite history and pretend it was just a "normal tourist visit." I've endured relentless attacks from Trump and his MAGA supporters. They've called me every name in the book. They've threatened my family. They've threatened me. But I still believe that we must stand up for what's right. Now, Donald Trump is back in the White House with unchecked power. His ICE agents are terrorizing communities with masks and military weapons — just like his insurrectionists did on January 6th. The only difference is that now they're being paid with your tax dollars. His MAGA enablers in Congress are letting him treat the Constitution like it's optional. They're ignoring subpoenas. They're refusing oversight. They're acting like Trump is a king instead of a president. And I'm not going to sit back and let it happen. That's why I'm running for Congress, Sandeep. Because my oath to protect and defend the Constitution didn't end on January 6th. It will never end. Our country has lived through challenging periods before. We've overcome, persevered, and moved toward a more perfect union. We're in the middle of another fight for our country right now. I still have faith that good can prevail over evil and that we can overcome these hard times. What is right still matters here… but only if we make it matter. I'm ready to continue this fight in Congress. I know Trump and his MAGA machine inside and out. I've faced them before. I stood strong when it mattered most.
I'm not a career politician. I'm not a millionaire. I'm a dad, a former Capitol Police officer, and an American who refuses to give up on our democracy. This campaign will be powered by ordinary people doing extraordinary things: a construction worker in Waldorf giving $10. An aircraft mechanic in Lexington Park giving $20. A teacher in Clinton giving $50. Together, we're going to prove that Americans will stand up for what's right. Thank you for standing with me, Harry Dunn P.S. — My team set an ambitious goal of 100,000 donors in our first few weeks to prove we have what it takes to win this race. Every dollar you give helps us build the grassroots movement we need to defeat MAGA extremism and take back the House. Will you split a $25 donation between my campaign and Raja Krishnamoorthi's before midnight? >>
