Sandeep, I know there are a lot of emails in your inbox, but this isn't a typical fundraising email. If you have a couple of minutes, I'd like to share my story with you. My parents immigrated to the U.S. from India when I was a baby in search of the American Dream and a better life for their kids.
They worked incredibly hard to achieve that dream. But when my father lost his income, we fell on hard times. We lived in public housing and depended on food stamps to eat. I got my first job delivering newspapers, and worked at McDonald's to help put myself through college. And thanks to support from our community and excellent public schools, I went on to graduate from law school and become Illinois' first Indian-American Congressman. So Sandeep, I don't come from wealth or power. I come from humble beginnings. I'm a product of what happens when our government services, like public schools and food stamps, work as they should. So when Donald Trump goes after essential, life-saving programs, when he launches an assault on immigrant families – I take it personally. I'm running for Senate because I refuse to let everything that made my story possible be ripped to shreds by this out-of-control President. But I can't do this alone.
