A whistleblower named Brian Murphy, the former head of Intelligence in President Trump's Dept of Homeland Security, came forward this week alleging that his superiors are manipulating intelligence assessments for political reasons. Congressman Raja said on MSNBC , "I believe that politics should not trump our national security….(according to the whistleblower) the Trump Administration routinely manipulated and changed reports to downplay the threat of Russian interference in our upcoming elections, which is ongoing and serious...we're going to continue the investigation very seriously at this point."
House Democrats including Congressman Raja have launched an investigation into a $250 million communications contract issued by the Trump administration to "defeat despair and inspire hope." CNN, POLITICO, ABC 10, and The Washington Post have all reported on the investigation. POLITICO released quotes from a letter written by Reps Carolyn Maloney, Jim Clyburn, and Raja. They said, "We have grave concerns that, rather than focus on planning and executing a national strategy to contain the coronavirus, the Trump Administration is using a quarter of a billion dollars in taxpayer money to fund what appears to be a political propaganda campaign just two months before a presidential election."
