9/21 Raja Update

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

We would like to take a moment to honor Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life. A champion of equality, progress, and inclusion and a trailblazer for women's rights - we must continue her fight and honor her legacy. She will be missed very deeply.

Tensions along the border between India and China have increased lately due to the Chinese government taking provocative measures after the Indian Government built infrastructure on its side of the border to shore up its own defenses. Congressman Raja spoke about this issue with The Week, The Wire, and NDTV. Congressman Raja, the first and only Indian-American on the House Intelligence Committee, said to The Week, "What is ironic about this situation is that the Chinese had already built up infrastructure on their side of the border previously. And so, what I'm very concerned about is that the Chinese are making yet another series of provocative moves on the heels of having done similar things with regard to border disputes, or other tensions with Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines in the South China Sea." The Congressman has introduced a bipartisan resolution against China, which is an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. It passed overwhelmingly in the House. Congressman Raja will continue to monitor this situation and work to resolve this diplomatically.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Asian-Americans have endured demeaning acts of bigotry and hate. The House last week took a strong stand by passing a new resolution that called on "all public officials to condemn and denounce any and all anti-Asian sentiment in any form." Congressman Raja spoke with The Siasat Daily saying, "this is deeply personal and offensive to me...When people, including those in the White House, refer to Covid-19 as....the 'Kung-flu,' they encourage bigotry and discrimination against Asian Americans." Congressman Raja will continue to condemn and call out discrimination.

We'll continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in DC and Illinois.

Thank you again and best wishes to you and your family.
