A week after the election has been called for President-elect Joe Biden, President Trump is still refusing to concede. This poses a threat to our country, eroding the President-elect's legitimacy and undermining chances for post-Trump collaboration between Democrats and Republicans in Congress ... and more fundamentally, Trump's refusal to concede is obstructing the Biden transition team from accessing critical intel regarding the coronavirus pandemic and any potential threats to national security.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spoke with NPR this weekend about the problems this poses. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, the Congressman knows the importance of classified briefings: "The 9/11 commission specifically cited a delayed transition between Bill Clinton and George Bush in impairing the George W. Bush administration's handling of the developing 9/11 threat … we're basically inviting our adversaries to target us during this transition period, and this chaos and confusion that the President is creating really hurts our ability to protect ourselves."
Congressman Raja also spoke with MSNBC this week about President Trump's post-election purge of top national security officials and what the Congressman would like to see in President-elect Biden's cabinet. "We need to depoliticize the Justice Department, just as we need to depoliticize many of the departments that unfortunately have been subject to this campaign of politicization by the President ... We need somebody who can inspire the career public servants in the Justice Department to do their job, to enforce the laws, to crack down on corruption, fraud, to enforce our civil rights laws ... the American people are craving for that type of person right now in many of the departments, but certainly in the Department of Justice."
