Raja Update 11.9.20

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

What a week it was! Congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their decisive electoral victory, with both a majority in the Electoral College and the largest popular vote in US history!

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has worked tirelessly to help, headlining numerous get-out-the-vote zoom rallies and events for Joe and Kamala over the past weeks and months. The Congressman is especially honored to congratulate Kamala Harris on being the first woman - the first woman of color, no less - and especially the first South Asian, to be elected to the position of Vice President of the United States. In the words of Vice President-Elect Harris, "While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last."

We must remember, though, Election Day was just the beginning, not the end. The Coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen, and we must move quickly to pass a new stimulus bill. Congressman Raja spoke this week with WGN Chicago about the need to bring the country together and move forward. "A lot of people are still hurting economically ... a lot of people are hurting because of the virus and the health impact of the current crisis. They want to hear somebody, namely their future President, basically talk about how we come together as Americans to fight these twins crises."

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi also spoke out earlier this week against President Trump's near constant denigration of doctors and healthcare workers, who are risking their lives everyday on the frontlines of this pandemic. The President suggested that doctors are reporting increased coronavirus cases and deaths to be able to profit off those cases, which the Congressman denounced in no uncertain words, "[The President's allegation] is patently false, as are most of the President's statements about the coronavirus. But it's also an insult to thousands of health care professionals who have been battling the coronavirus."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.

Thank you again and best wishes to you and your family.
