Raja Update 11.30.20

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joined Illinois Republican Congressman Darin LaHood on WGN last week to discuss the potential for bipartisan collaboration between Democrats and Republicans under the Biden administration. Appearing now for a fifth joint media appearance with Republican Congressman LaHood, Congressman Raja said, "I think there's so much that we can work on together … we gotta bring civility back to our politics; this is incredibly important. We can't fight for economic development, and we can't fight for good infrastructure and fight against hunger in this country if we're fighting each other."

Congressman Krishnamoorthi also spoke with NBC last week about the presidential transition and the recent steps taken by the Trump administration to begin the transition process, implicitly, if begrudgingly, acknowledging President-elect Biden's victory. "I think that it's a good sign that finally the Trump administration is recognizing reality … my constituents are past the election at this point; they are upset about the current pandemic, they are upset about the health crisis, they are upset about their jobs and the economic crisis, and they want a vaccine ASAP, and so all those particular challenges need to be confronted right now, and the transition is essential to making good on Joe Biden's plans and promises to deal with all those crises."

Congressman Raja also spoke with MSNBC on Friday about the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and the potential national security concerns surrounding President Trump's personal financial liabilities and his access to sensitive information. "We have to take extra precaution and be very alert to how those particular meetings and ties and financial arrangements that the President and his family and his businesses have with Russia could influence future issues, and so, we absolutely are concerned about that."

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, the Congressman also called on the Chairman of the SEC to investigate Sen. Perdue last week for profiting off the purchase and sale of stock in a major defense contractor while he was on the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower. "Perdue began purchasing thousands of dollars worth of shares in BWX, which makes nuclear reactors and other parts for submarines. As his committee worked to pass the annual defense spending bill in 2019—which set aside $4.7 billion for a new submarine that the company specialized in—Perdue sold off his shares in BWX at a profit, with sales totaling as much as $385,000."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
