Raja Update 12.28.20

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spoke with MSNBC on Sunday about President Trump's unprecedented use of the pardon power to pardon numerous former political associates and even murderers. "It's a rogues' gallery of unrepentant felons ... and I think that this is something that Americans reject. I've written now two letters to the White House Counsel ... basically asking them who and whether they are considering preemptive pardons for family members including the President himself. That is probably the next shoe to drop."

Congressman Raja also spoke with WGN earlier last week about the provisions contained within the Covid-19 relief package and the annual spending bill, which were combined in one package and passed by the House and Senate last week and signed into law by the President late last night. On the issue of stimulus checks and the President's last minute reversal on the amount included in the bill, the Congressman had this to say: "$600 is not enough; we know that the need is much greater than $600. All that being said, there was tremendous resistance from Senate Republicans for even including a stimulus check in the first place. They finally agreed to the $600 when there was a lot of public pressure to include that component."

The Congressman also spoke with the Greg and Dan show last week about the ongoing cybersecurity breach affecting numerous government agencies: "The Russians are at it again, all signs point toward them ... the cyber authorities have told us this is a grave attack and it's an ongoing situation in the sense that they haven't stopped it yet, and so we're still trying to get our arms around it. I think that it just goes to show that there have to be consequences to the Russians each time they do this. We should have done it the first time in terms of holding them accountable. This time around, I personally have had it, and we gotta repair the damage that's been done, but we also gotta send a strong message to them -- this is just unacceptable."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
