Dear Sandeep,
This week, Congressman Raja joined Wolf Blitzer on CNN to offer his insight as a member of the House Intelligence Committee on the national security concerns surrounding the leak of highly classified Pentagon documents. The Congressman told Wolf, "We're going to have a classified hearing next week at which I think the Pentagon briefers can expect some very, very tough questions. How the heck is it that when we spend billions and billions of dollars collecting and preserving this information that a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman can get access to this and download it, print it, and then upload it to some random server to share with their friends? This is just mystifying." When Wolf asked the Congressman if the U.S. military needs to improve their screening process, the Congressman told him, "Absolutely. There are way too many people with access to top secret documents at this point...we have got to narrow the group of people with access to this information."
Congressman Raja also joined José Díaz-Balart on MSNBC to further provide insight on the leak of the Pentagon documents. The Congressman told José, "The manner in which [security clearance holders] have access is way too easy for them to share with others. One of the reasons why there aren't too many Members of Congress who are tied up with these classified documents scandals is that we are only allowed to view them in classified spaces. We're only allowed to view hard copies—not electronic versions—and we're required to turn them back in the moment that we're done reading them. And yet we have a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman who has electronic access to all manner of subjects involving classified material....this is absolutely ridiculous."
On Monday, Congressman Raja joined Brian Mackey on Illinois Public Media to discuss meeting Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen during a recent congressional delegation trip to California. Congressman Raja told Brian, "There is a real deep well of support on both sides of the aisle that the Taiwanese people are able to maintain their freedom and democracy, and if they decide to reunify with the PRC that they do so on peaceful means." The Congressman added, "Taiwan is in a precarious position. We see the PRC, which is ruled by the Chinese Communist Party, using coercive means right now to try to get its way, to try to reunify with Taiwan...given its size and its militaristic approach, Taiwan is in a very challenging position, and so now more than ever we need to support the Taiwenese people."
