Dear Sandeep,
This week, Congressman Raja hosted a ceremony to rename the Schaumburg Post Office as the Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Post Office Building. The Congressman authorized the bipartisan bill to rename the facility, which was signed into law by President Biden in December. At the ceremony, the Congressman said there is a "debt that we owe the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to serve our country...Of the more than two million Americans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, 50,000 were wounded and 7,000 never came home. We shall remember them. We shall remember their sacrifice. And remember their families."
On Wednesday, Congressman Raja appeared on CNN in his role as top Democrat on the China Select Committee to discuss meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen during a bipartisan congressional delegation trip to California. Congressman Raja said, "The Chinese Communist Party is counting on Americans being divided, fractrous, and partisan with regard to protecting our interests and asserting our values. So today, speaking with one voice is very important, namely that we are going to stand with our partners, our friends, our allies in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Taiwanese people." The Congressman later said, "At the end of the day, I believe that any differences that we, the CCP, Taiwan, or anyone else has in the region need to be settled at the bargaining table and not through any kind of military hostilities. That would be completely unacceptable."
On Friday, Congressman Raja joined John Howell on WLS Radio to discuss why defending Taiwan is vital to U.S national security. Congressman Raja told John, "When a dictatorial regime, like the Chinese Communist Party, is allowed to militarily get its way and do so unchecked by anyone else—whether it's in Taiwan or elsewhere—it's going to repeat that behavior over and over again. And we know from painful experience that means the U.S. gets involved in a World War, and we don't want that." The Congressman asserted, "We want a durable peace, and that means we must deter aggression by the CCP. It's that simple."
