Raja Update 8/27

Dear Sandeep,

On Monday, Raja joined CNN's Laura Coates to talk about the House Oversight's Committee's ongoing investigation into the Epstein Files. Raja said, "We just want to see what's in the files…Look, I think everybody wants to see what's in those files, it's a very serious case, and I think that it's going to be a question for the White House and Mike Johnson. Are they going to obstruct what their own base wants, or are they going to allow the disclosure of these files and then allow us to get on to other legislative business, such as funding the government?"

On Wednesday, Raja traveled to Rockford to meet with local leaders and families where he vowed to defend democracy against Trump's attacks, protect the middle class, fight for small businesses and work to preserve the American Dream. Raja told supporters at the Rockford Library East Branch that the "American Dream is under threat" largely because of "the economic chaos of Donald Trump." "Groceries are more expensive now than they were when Trump took office," Raja said. "Everything is more expensive now, whether it's a home, whether it's childcare, whether it's healthcare, whether it's even trying to save for retirement. It's just harder."

First Midwest Group founder and CEO Sunil Puri attended the event and praised Durbin's history of dedication and frequent visits to Rockford. Raja promised that if elected, he "would not forget Rockford." "When I think of the American Dream, I think of Sunil Puri," Raja said. "He came here with nothing in his pockets and he went to a small college on scholarship, paying for school by working as a janitor. Only in America can you have that story and end up one of the most successful business people in the United States."

On Thursday, in an exclusive interview for MyStateline, Raja explained why he felt compelled to run for Senate. Raja said, "That's really why I'm running for the U.S. Senate as well, to make sure this country is there for the next families who need it as they pursue their own American Dream, however they define it… But right now, too many people feel that it's not there for them. And I feel it's my duty to protect that access to the American Dream."

Later that afternoon, he joined MSNBC's The Last Word to discuss the first batch of Epstein Files releases by the Trump Administration. When asked about Tod Blanche's visit to speak with Ghislaine Maxwell, Raja said "It was basically an attempt to distract from what I think everybody really wants to see, which is all the Epstein Files. That's what we need to look at to really understand the nature of Donald Trump's potential involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, and others."

That evening, Raja addressed a crowd of over 160 Illinoisans at the Woodford County Democrats Annual Founder's Dinner. On stage, Raja said, "I believe in fighting for public school teachers and public education. How about you? I believe in fighting for collective bargaining rights and unions. How about yourself?"

On Friday, Raja met with Marion-area leaders and families at The Seasoning Bistro. He heard firsthand about the issues facing Southern Illinois — including rural hospital closures, rising costs, and aging infrastructure — and laid out how he'll fight in Washington to bring resources, respect, and results back to southern Illinois. "Donald Trump is trying to tear down our social safety net as we know it — not just Obamacare, which he has an obsession with in terms of tearing down, but also Medicaid," Raja said in Marion. "As you know, the 'Big, Beautiful Bill', which I call the 'Large, Lousy Law,' essentially takes away Medicaid and health insurance for over 535,000 Illinoisans, and 17 million people across the country. So right now I'm doing everything I can to fight back and shine a light on the harm being done by this reckless legislation."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
