Raja Update 8/5

Dear Sandeep,

On Monday, Raja visited the headquarters of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 553, a union known for its legacy of excellence in skilled trades and contractor partnerships. During his tour of their cutting-edge training facility in East Alton, Raja spoke with apprentices learning to operate the same machinery used at the Wood River Refinery – a top employer in the area. Raja emphasized the union's critical role in shaping the next generation of craftsmen and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that expand career and technical education opportunities for Illinois families.

Raja then joined NBC St. Louis's Mark Maxwell to discuss the economic issues that Metro East families are facing, and how he plans to fight for lower costs if elected to the US Senate. He said,  "We're not addressing the economic pain points that bedevil people right now – there's an affordability crisis."

Raja also hosted a meet and greet in Mount Vernon with community leaders and local Democratic Party Chairs to discuss the future of the region. He listened closely to local concerns and pledged to take on the special interests and extremists who are dividing Washington.

On Tuesday, Raja toured Franklin Hospital in Benton to spotlight the devastating impact of the Republican-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, where he said, "The OBBBA is going to be cutting $1.2 trillion from Medicaid over the next 10 years, which in my opinion is going to hurt rural areas, rural health clinics and hospitals." Franklin is one of at least nine hospitals in Illinois at immediate risk of closure as a direct result of the law.

Raja traveled to Carbondale for a meet and greet hosted by former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon. At her home, he spoke with dozens of Southern Illinoisans and continued having conversations about his work to lower costs for everyday families.

Raja also spoke with WSIU, Southern Illinois' NPR Station, about his summer listening tour. Raja is traveling across the state to hear directly from Illinoisans about how Trump's agenda is impacting their communities and hearing firsthand the importance of having fighters in Washington standing up to him every chance they get.

On Wednesday, Raja joined MSNBC's Morning Joe to discuss his plans to introduce legislation to oppose Donald Trump's potential pardon of Ghislaine Maxwell. He said, "I think that [Trump] is dangling the pardon to get her to either fabricate testimony, or conveniently forget other parts of what has happened with Jeffrey Epstein… it's important for Donald Trump to hear that the American people, through their representatives, don't want him to pardon and potentially cover up what's happening with Jeffrey Epstein."

On Thursday, Raja traveled to Springfield for a meet and greet hosted by Sangamon County Democratic Party Chair and longtime former state director for Sen. Dick Durbin, Bill Houlihan. At the listening session, Bill said "[Raja]'s a good candidate. He gets around. He's a hard worker. Anybody in Washington will tell you that no one's gonna outwork him, no one's gonna outraise him, no one's gonna outthink him. He's very smart and he works hard for everybody."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
