Dear Sandeep,
Last Monday, alongside Chicago leaders, Raja addressed hundreds at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition's 36th annual breakfast reception honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "As Rev. Jackson said, when we stand together, we stand tall. And that's what this stage looks like. We are standing tall for justice. We're standing tall for peace. We're standing tall against racism and bigotry," said Raja.
On Tuesday, Raja introduced the No Private Bounty Hunters for Immigration Enforcement Act, legislation to prohibit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from outsourcing civil immigration enforcement functions such as skip tracing, surveillance, and location verification to private contractors operating under profit-driven or incentive-based arrangements. "Turning immigration enforcement into a profit-seeking enterprise crosses a dangerous line," said Raja. "There is no justification for outsourcing coercive power to for-profit, armed private bounty hunters who would operate with even fewer safeguards. The answer is accountability under the law, not profit-driven enforcement in the shadows."
On Wednesday, Raja joined CNN anchor Kate Bolduan on CNN This Morning to discuss the Trump Administration's reckless attempts to take over Greenland. "I think it's insane what he's doing right now, it's absolutely the opposite of what the American people want. Basically what he's saying is, the solution to his desire to acquire Greenland is to tax Americans. That's what tariffs are - they're taxes on working families, they're taxes on businesses," said Raja.
On Thursday, Raja spoke with Peoria's WEEK 25 News about his First Home Affordability Act, legislation he introduced earlier this month which would help first-time homebuyers overcome one of the biggest barriers to homeownership: the cost. "When you can own your home, and you're actually making payments that go toward building up the value of your investment, you're basically encouraging saving at the same time that you are enabling people some housing security," said Raja.
On Friday, 9th Ward Alderman Anthony A. Beale announced his endorsement of Raja for U.S. Senate. "Alderman Beale embodies the kind of leadership Chicago deserves. His work is grounded in the community, guided by results, and proven over decades of trusted service," said Raja. "His deep roots in the South Side and unwavering presence in the neighborhoods he represents have produced historic economic growth in the 9th Ward and real results for working families."
We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
