“Whatever you do, make sure this country is there for the next families who need it.” That’s a lesson my parents instilled in me as a young boy. It shaped how I see the world, how I approach public service, and why I’m running for the United States Senate. My Family’s StoryMy parents immigrated from India to this country when I was a baby. Like so many immigrant families, they were searching for the American Dream – a chance to build a better life for our family. They sacrificed everything for that dream. My dad worked multiple jobs. My mom stretched every dollar. They believed that America was a place where, if you played by the rules and contributed to your community, you could make it. But when my father lost his income in the early 1970s, we fell on hard times. We lived in public housing. We depended on food stamps to put food on the table. The safety net that people love to criticize in political debates became the thing that kept my family afloat. That’s how I stand before you today as a member of Congress and a candidate for the United States Senate – a living embodiment of the American Dream. The Country My Parents Believed In Is Slipping AwayBut here’s what keeps me up at night: the country my parents believed in is slipping away. Donald Trump is cruelly tearing apart immigrant families like mine. He’s unleashed ICE to operate with impunity and is spreading terror throughout communities across the country. He let ACA tax credits expire, causing premiums to skyrocket. He’s targeting food assistance programs. He’s attacking the very safety net that made my story possible. Life is getting harder for working families – and he’s making it worse. Tax cuts for billionaires while families struggle with rising costs. Unconstitutional wars for oil company profits while Americans can’t afford health care. This isn’t the America my parents believed in. This Is Personal to MeI’m running for Senate because this is deeply, fundamentally personal to me. When I see Trump tearing apart immigrant families, I see my own family. When I see him attacking programs that help families during hard times, I remember living in public housing. When I see him abandoning the promise of America, I think about my parents’ belief that this country would be there for people like us. I’ll fight with everything I have to make sure this country is still there for the next families who need it. That’s why I’m running – to honor the lesson my parents taught me. This Election Is Our First Chance to Fight BackMy election is less than two months away, and early voting has already begun. This will be one of the FIRST opportunities of 2026 to prove to Trump that we won’t let him get away with this kind of cruelty. Donald Trump doesn’t want people like me anywhere near the U.S. Senate. He doesn’t want senators who remember what it’s like to struggle, who understand why safety net programs matter, who will fight to protect immigrant families. But Trump doesn’t get to decide who represents Illinois. You do. We do. Together. I Need Your HelpI’m building this campaign with grassroots support from people who believe America should be a place where families get a fair shot, where hard work is rewarded, where we lift each other up. We’re up against wealthy, shady Super PACs spending seven figures to defeat us. We’re reaching voters while early voting is underway. We need to prove that grassroots campaigns can win. If you believe this country should still be there for the next families who need it, I need your support to get to the Senate and fight for them. Every dollar helps us reach voters during early voting, counter Super PAC spending, and send Trump a message that his cruelty will not go unanswered. My parents didn’t sacrifice everything just so their son could watch America abandon the values that made our story possible. They would want me to fight – to stand up for immigrant families, to defend safety net programs, to make sure the American Dream is real for the next generation. That’s exactly what I’m doing. And I hope you’ll join me with your support right now. → Thank you, Raja |
