Raja Update 2/10

Dear Sandeep,

Last Monday, a coalition of McLean County leaders led by State Representative Sharon Chung (IL-91) endorsed Raja for U.S. Senate. These latest downstate endorsements add to a growing list of leaders backing Raja from every corner of Illinois, underscoring his statewide coalition of support. "I am honored to have earned the endorsement of Bloomington-Normal area leaders who understand what it takes to serve and uplift their communities," said Raja. "As a son of Peoria, I know firsthand what Central Illinois families are up against, and I am ready to be their voice in the U.S. Senate."

On Tuesday, the Collinsville Township Democrats and the Tri-Cities Democrats (representing Democrats from Granite City, Nameoki, and Chouteau in Madison County) both announced their endorsements of Raja for U.S. Senate, strengthening a rapidly growing coalition of Metro East leaders and downstate organizations rallying behind his campaign. "We know Raja will fight for Metro East in the U.S. Senate because he's shown us time and again that he's the leader we can rely on to show up and deliver," said Debbie Ming-Mendoza, Chair of the Tri-Cities Democrats. "Through countless visits to the region to meet directly with labor unions, small business owners, healthcare providers, and educators, Raja has made clear that our voices are central to his mission."

On Wednesday, Raja joined CNN anchor Jim Sciutto on CNN This Evening to discuss a congressional shadow hearing titled "Our Values at Stake: Examining DHS' Use of Violence in Immigration Enforcement," during which Raja exposed a pattern of systemic violence by Trump's DHS while demanding accountability. During the hearing, Raja laid out how DHS and ICE operations carried out under President Trump — including Operation Midway Blitz — inflicted serious, systemic harm on Chicago-area communities. "Enough is enough," said Raja. "We have to negotiate these reforms. We have to abolish Trump's ICE. We have to have masks off, IDs on, no more warrantless arrests, there have to be third-party investigations of use of force, and very importantly, we can't have roving gangs of ICE agents or CBP agents in our cities looking to make trouble."

On Thursday, a new coalition of elected officials across downstate Illinois announced their endorsement of Raja for U.S. Senate. "I am honored to have the backing of these local leaders who fight day in and day out to improve the lives of working families in their communities," said Raja. "With their partnership, I look forward to bringing the needs and priorities of all Illinoisans — from Coffeen to Rockford — to the floor of the U.S. Senate."

On Friday, Raja for Illinois released a new statewide digital ad, titled "The Downstate Candidate." The new spot highlights Raja's status as "the downstate candidate in this race," highlighting his status as the only candidate in the primary with a demonstrated commitment to representing all of Illinois in the U.S. Senate. "Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi traveled across Downstate Illinois… He stopped in places including East Alton, Carbondale, Mount Vernon, and Springfield… Raja Krishnamoorthi visited Fairview Elementary School in Normal to talk about recent cuts to federally-funded after-school programs… He made a stop today at Medicate Pharmacy in East St Louis... He met with local leaders in Moline to discuss the housing crisis," said various newscasters in "The Downstate Candidate."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
