Sandeep, Mitch McConnell has been my senator since I was 2 weeks old. I’m 41 now.
I’ve spent my whole life under his leadership, and I can say first hand that Mitch McConnell has never done anything for me, or the folks I grew up with in Louisville’s West End.
The candid truth is, the past two months without Mitch McConnell’s leadership is not an absence I have felt.
Because when you grow up in a family like mine, it doesn’t matter how much power and influence your Senator has in Washington if you’re still struggling back at home.
My family was the epitome of the working‑class struggle countless Americans are facing. I spent my youth in the West End of Louisville, where I’ve been homeless. I watched my parents drop out of high school to raise my siblings and me. I watched my mother skip meals so that I wouldn’t have to. I rationed my insulin as a Type 1 diabetic.
So when I say we need Medicare‑for‑All, universal child care, housing you can actually afford, and a floor of $40,000 a year for anyone working full time, that isn’t just a political ideology – it’s something I’ve lived.
For decades, working families across this Commonwealth have been asked to sacrifice while Washington insiders like Mitch McConnell have worked for the wealthy and well‑connected. I’m running for Senate because Kentucky deserves better than Andy Barr, AKA Mitch 2.0, and I’m ready to fight for it.
