7/20 Raja Update

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you, and that you and your family are safe and healthy.

Last week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi launched an investigation against Marc Short, who is Vice President Pence's chief of staff. This investigation was opened due to the belief that Short may have potential conflict of interests with the administration's pandemic response. Multiple reports revealed that Short was serving on the White House's COVID-19 task force while maintaining individual stock holdings in companies such as 3M, Walmart, and CVS, which are directly associated with Trump's response to the virus. Congressman Raja told Law & Crime, "I've opened this investigation because Mr. Short's apparent refusal to resolve his conflicts of interest is especially disturbing during this pandemic as Americans need their public officials to put the country first...Along with Mr. Short's specific case, we're looking at how the Office of Government Ethics is addressing similar conflicts of interest elsewhere in the administration." Congressman Raja will continue to investigate this issue further and hold members of the Trump Administration accountable.

Our health care workers have been heroes on the frontlines taking care of those in need through this pandemic. It's time we take the time to take care of them. Many of them have been afflicted with burnout, depression, PTSD, and other mental health conditions at a rate far surpassing that of the general population. Congressman Raja wrote this op-ed in the Daily Herald including the following: "We have provided assistance to hospitals bearing the financial burden of treating victims of COVID-19, and for governments providing the safety-net services to those affected by it. But, to this point, we haven't fully considered the needs of the folks on the front lines of the battle -- the nurses and doctors and other health workers." Raja introduced the bipartisan Coronavirus Health Care Worker Wellness Act of 2020 to address these issues. The Congressman will continue to fight for our everyday heroes.

We'll continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in DC and Illinois.

Thank you again and best wishes to you and your family.
