Dear Sandeep,
Happy Halloween! We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.
This Thursday, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was featured on CNN with Jake Tapper to reveal the explosive findings of the Congressional investigation into the Trump administration's misuse of CDC funds for partisan pro-Trump propaganda. The taxpayer money was originally intended for a public awareness campaign to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, but the Trump administration planned to use the ad campaign to minimize the devastation of the coronavirus and boost support for the President's handling of the pandemic. "These particular ads were not meant to, for instance, encourage mask wearing or social distancing but rather to promote the theme 'helping the President will help the country.'"
Even more disturbing, the administration had drawn up a list of approved celebrities to appear in what was ostensibly a public awareness campaign, for which celebrities were vetted not on their merit as effective spokespersons but rather on their support for President Trump. As Congressman Raja told Newsweek, "It almost feels to me like a McCarthy-esque list of enemies for the Trump administration," recalling the dark days of Mccarthyism in the 1950s, when Americans could be blacklisted, their lives ruined, for alleged Communist sympathies.
We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
