Raja Update 10.26.20

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was featured this week in The Hill, calling for a stronger review process for Coronavirus vaccines and advocating for the EVALUATE Act, which the Congressman recently introduced in Congress, to ensure the resulting vaccines have been adequately reviewed by the FDA. "The world is desperately awaiting a COVID-19 vaccine, but not just any vaccine will do. We must ensure that any vaccine that emerges, particularly through an accelerated process, is proven safe and effective in a transparent and science-driven process. Without such assurance, much of the public may not buy into it."

The Congressman also met virtually with the House Intelligence Committee this week to hear expert testimony and discuss the growing problem of misinformation on social networking platforms, especially the loose constellation of conspiracy theories known as QAnon. The Congressman argued that this is especially important with regard to foreign attempts to influence the outcome of the US election: "This is an excellent topic that we should drill down on as we get closer to the election. We've been talking about foriegn influence and Russian influence. I'm concerned that it's playing a role here with QAnon."

Congressman Raja also joined a group of bipartisan lawmakers this week in calling for the House leadership to address the substantial Medicare payment cuts that will affect many medical specialists starting in 2021. The letter argues: "Payment cuts of this magnitude will surely strain a health care system that is already stressed by the COVID-19 pandemic and could jeopardize patient access to medically necessary services."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
