Raja Update 10.21.20

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joined MSNBC Monday morning to talk about the ongoing stimulus bill negotiations between House Democrats and the Trump administration. "The latest substantive issue is with regard to testing … the President doesn't want to do the widespread testing necessary ... and it seems to be driven by political considerations. We have to put all that aside and get to yes, today. My constituents need this bill; the American people do as well." As a member of the Intelligence Committee, the Congressman also spoke with MSNBC about QAnon and Russian attempts to amplify the message of QAnon, which the FBI has recently called a domestic terrorist threat.

The Congressman was also featured on MSNBC on Saturday addressing Russian attempts to use Rudy Guiliani as a vector for Russian misinformation: "The intelligence community has been warning the White House as well as others that Rudy Guiliani has been targeted repeatedly by the Russians for being a vehicle for disinformation … He continues to meet with people like Andriy Derkach, whom the US Treasury Department has sanctioned and called a Russian agent, and that person is the source for much of his information that he tries to launder here in the US."

The Congressman also spoke with Fox 32 about President Trump's reckless refusal to provide federal aid for state and local governments, which are increasingly cash strapped as they continue to confront rising coronavirus case numbers. "We're gonna have to cut services, maybe even raise taxes and fees and lay a lot of people off, including police officers and first responders. So, this is a very dire situation, and I think that the federal government needs to step up right now."

Earlier last week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi also had the great honor to rename the Elgin post office, the Corporal Alex Martinez Memorial Post Office Building, in honor of the beloved serviceman who gave his life fighting in Afghanistan in 2012. The Congressman, who wrote the bill to rename the post office, became emotional as he addressed Corporal Martinez's widow: "Corporal Martinez was a brilliant star in the fabric of our lives, and his light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in our minds for years to come."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
