This week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi sat down with FOX32 Chicago's Mike Flannery to discuss the coronavirus relief package, state and local aid, and the vaccine rollout across Illinois. When asked about Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell's opposition to the potential $13.2 billion in state and local aid that IL could receive, Congressman Raja stated, "A lot of states that were not blue that never voted for a Democrat for U.S. Senate were equally complaining about how they needed federal aid, and it wasn't forthcoming." adding that "We are finally getting to brass-tacks. The subcommittee and the committee that I chair and sit on respectively have jurisdiction over this particular issue in the upcoming COVID package, and so I'm determined to make sure that we get it through."
In an interview with Politico's Illinois Playbook, Congressman Raja pressed the importance of the federal aid package for Illinois municipalities, "I think finally we're looking at a package that has a good chance of passing and will deliver a lot of relief to a lot of municipalities, counties and state governments."
After the release of Congressman Krishnamoorthi's Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy report on toxic metals found in baby food, Krishnamoorthi is calling for immediate action. The Congressman discussed the report in detail with the Salon, stating "Unfortunately, despite knowing the hazards of toxic metals — like arsenic, mercury, lead and cadmium — being present in baby foods, the FDA essentially was AWOL on these issues for years. And in fact, the Trump administration was given a secret presentation by one of the baby food makers, showing that the finished baby foods actually contain a greater metallic content than even the ingredients. And yet the Trump administration completely failed to act. Now that has to change immediately."
