Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spoke with Chicago Tonight last week about the initiative to open an independent investigation into the storming of the United States Capitol Building on January 6th. "I think the primary purpose of this outside, independent commission is that it needs to understand why we had a lapse in security and what can we do to prevent that from happening ever again … We can't let it happen again, regardless of where the threat emanates from, whether it's foreign or, in this case, domestic." Congressman Raja also spoke about the next Coronavirus relief bill, particularly the federal aid for state and local governments, with which the Congressman has been directly involved as a member of the Oversight Committee. "This is vital aid to make sure that services are not cut and taxes are not increased, so I'm proud to help to pass this."
Congressman Krishnamoorthi also wrote an op-ed in the Chicago Daily Herald about the critical need for state and local aid in the new relief package: "to this point, none of the relief packages passed by Congress have targeted financial help to local governments, which have borne the brunt of the pandemic's cost. Providing needed federal aid to local governments is not a partisan issue. Over the past months, I have heard from Republican mayors, Democratic mayors and Independent mayors across our district whose towns are struggling with the consequences of COVID-19 … They are faced with cutting critical services like police and fire, public health and nutrition programs at the very time their residents need more help, not less … That's why help is needed immediately from Washington."
