Raja Update 6.14.21

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

On Saturday Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi appeared on MSNBC to discuss the news that the Trump justice department had issued secret subpoenas to collect electronic records of Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee, of which Raja is a member: "I'm shocked, I'm outraged. These secret subpoenas are something you might see in Putin's Russia or Xi Jinping's China, not in the United States. We absolutely have to get to the bottom of what happened."

The Congressman also spoke with Jake Tapper on CNN about how far the Trump administration went with these subpoenas. "You have to remember that they were going after not only members of Congress, but also their families. They were also going after the staff of the intelligence committee and the staff of the personal offices of the members."

This past week the New York Times wrote about the investigation Congressman Raja opened into the health effects of the use of tear gas by police. "Given this domestic use, we would have expected an analysis demonstrating that tear gas products are safe to use on humans, but we have not seen this. In fact, evidence suggests that tear gas may be connected to long-term adverse health impacts for those exposed."

Earlier in the week, the Congressman also joined CNN to discuss a judge overturning California's assault weapons ban. "I think it's a seriously flawed ruling. To compare an AR-15 to a swiss army knife runs counter to what any ordinary person would believe. The ruling was also shocking coming on Gun Violence Awareness Day when thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people were thinking about how adversely their lives were affected by gun violence."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
