Raja Update 2/21

Dear Sandeep,

Happy President's Day! We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined Wolf Blitzer on CNN's 'Situation Room' to discuss the developing situation on Ukraine's border. Wolf asked the Congressman, as a key member of the House Intelligence Committee, for his thoughts after President Biden's speech addressing the tense situation. The Congressman said, "I hope there is not an invasion but as you know [the Russians] have the capability of conducting it imminently….[Biden's] message could…be interpreted as one of reaffirming any steps the Russians take to de-escalate the situation, if that is the case we are offering them both an olive branch... yet issuing a stern warning that an invasion of Ukraine would be a huge strategic blunder with huge costs."

Not long after the Congressman's first appearance this week, Wolf invited him on CNN again to discuss the news that President Biden has announced he is convinced that Putin will invade Ukraine in the very near future. Wolf asked Congressman Krishnamoorthi about how certain the President must be in order to make this kind of determination, and the Congressman responded by saying, "It has to be substantial, Wolf... assessments are usually given with high confidence or low confidence or somewhere in between. Although I haven't been privy to this latest information that he has been exposed to, I would suppose he's making this statement with a high degree of confidence."

The Congressman joined CNN a third time to comment on the political posture and calls for diplomacy of Ukraine's President Zelenskyy after recent developments. Congressman Krishnamoorthi told the host that, "On the one hand I'm glad that they are showing restraint and they are not giving in to what appears to be unprovoked escalations by the separatists perhaps directed by the Russians. On the other hand they have to be ready for an attack, and it appears to be imminent and they have to be ready to defend themselves and of course the United States will support them.

After spearheading the efforts to significantly change the USPS leadership, Congressman Krishnamoorthi wrote to USPS Board of Governors Chair Roman Martinez about the new chairman's vision for the Postal Service, implementation of the USPS's role in the upcoming election cycle and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. In his letter, the Congressman wrote that, "The USPS Board of Governors must play a stronger role in evaluating the impact of Postmaster General DeJoy's 'Delivering
for America' 10-year plan, which has reduced service standards and increased prices."

The Congressman also joined MSNBC's 'The Last Word' with host Jonathan Capeheart this week to speak about the House Oversight Committee's decision to ask the General Services Administration to terminate the Trump Hotel's lease. When Jonathan asked the Congressman to explain how this will impact Trump, the Congressman told him that, "[Trump] is banking on a hundred million dollar profit in the sale of that lease to undisclosed purchasers. It turns out that lease was procured from the federal government on a quicksand of potentially faulty documents... there are numerous other misrepresentations, potentially, that look very similar to the ones that are the subject of the civil and criminal lawsuits that are happening in New York with regard to a raft of other financial statements as well."

The Congressman joined hosts Brett, Ben, and Jordan Meiselas, hosts of The MeidasTouch Podcast, to discuss Congressman Krishnamoorthi's investigation into claims of the NFL's Washington Commander's toxic workplace, instances of sexual harassment, and the Congressman's advocacy on behalf of those that suffer from abuse in the workplace more generally. The Congressman said, "First of all we should just acknowledge that the vas majority of women in America report having been sexually harassed, more than 60% of women, and much of it at the workplace... The conduct that has occured at the Washington Team has been horrific, decades and decades of sexual harassment against numerous victims by numerous perpetrators including the team owner himself, Dan Synder."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
