Raja Update 2/7

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Krishnamoorthi penned an op-ed in the Chicago Sun-Times directly addressing the American people's concerns about inflation and supply chain issues, as well as explaining how recent historic investments in infrastructure can help ease these problems. The Congressman wrote, "The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will make many long-term improvements to our nation's transportation system. But addressing our immediate supply-chain challenges, and the spiraling inflation that's resulted, cannot wait. We must prioritize those projects that have the greatest near-term impact on shipping costs and supply chain delays, thereby lowering prices for consumers, families, and businesses."

The Congressman also wrote an op-ed that appeared in The Chicago Tribune this week addressing rising tensions with Russia on Ukraine's eastern border. Conveying his thoughts on what the next steps ought to be, the Congressman wrote that, "We should consider the strongest possible economic and diplomatic responses to a Russian invasion — everything short of deploying U.S. combat troops in Ukraine. After our 20-year military commitment in Afghanistan, we must realize that such open-ended military action abroad can undermine our security objectives and prevent the host country from building the capacity to stand up for itself. We must not repeat that mistake, but there is much we can do short of sending U.S. troops."

Congressman Krishnamoorthi appeared on ABC7 to speak about a man from Lombard, Illinois currently being held hostage in Afghanistan. The Congressman told ABC, "He was a civil engineer working on helping rebuild Afghanistan when he was basically taken hostage in such a particular episode of cruelty and cowardice... I'm very glad the president released a statement. It was strong, it was forceful, it was empathetic.

ESPN recently reported on the new allegations of sexual harassment made against Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder and the landmark hearing chaired by Congressman Krishnamoorthi which addressed these allegations. During the hearing, the Congressman made his position clear by saying, "Mr. Snyder has used nondisclosure agreements to silence employees who have experienced sexual harassment and other workplace abuses. He has made it difficult for employees to come forward with the fear of retaliation."

As reported by Roll Call's Chris Cioffi, the Congressman has been very vocal about how crucial this investigation is, telling reporters in an interview after the hearing, "It's time to talk about sexual harassment in the workplace," and that "the reason why is because, still, there are workplaces where sexual harassment is pervasive, and where it appears that their willingness and ability to correct themselves is really called into question by situations like this."

The Washington Post reported that despite the push for transparency and accountability, there is growing concern that a "Common Interest Agreement" struck between the NFL and the Washington Commander's team could prohibit the release of workplace probe details. A joint letter from Congressman Krishnamoorthi and Congresswoman Maloney explains that the agreement "may have been intended to prevent the public release of certain information related to the investigation absent the agreement of both parties"

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
