Raja Update 4/11

Dear Friend,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined WGN Radio host John Williams to talk about the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, and tangible steps forward to support the people of Ukraine. The Congressman told John that, "What has happened is just a savage act of war crimes... atrocities that have to be held to account. I'm very supportive of the additional imposition of sanctions but we probably have to do more John. Unfortunately, Vladimir Putin, person after person who has studied the man, tells us that he respects nothing but force, so we have to assist even more, the Ukrainians, on the battlefield to make sure they drive the Russians either out of Ukraine or to the bargaining table with an advantage to the Ukrainians."

Congressman Raja continues to be a strong voice on the bipartisan effort to reform congressional stock trading. He recently penned an op-ed in The Hill that outlines the issue and his involvement in the process of making meaningful change on the issue. He wrote, "Over the past two years, several members of Congress have come under investigation for allegedly buying and selling stocks based on nonpublic information... in December of 2021, an investigation by Insider found that 57 members of Congress have violated the STOCK Act in recent years by failing to report trades within the mandated 45-day window. This is not a Republican problem, or a Democratic problem. It's a corruption problem—and there is an increasing chorus of members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who are calling for change, now!"

The Congressman, as part of his work as chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, has turned public attention to the FDA's mishandling of a heart device recall. Congressman Krishnamoorthi said that, "The FDA is charged with ensuring patient access to safe, effective, and high-quality medical devices, but, over multiple administrations, the agency failed to protect consumers from the dangerous HVAD System... The agency likewise failed to adequately share knowledge of the device's defects with other agencies. FDA must take a more proactive role in its regulation of devices that have been the subject of Warning Letters and Class I recalls, and in its communication of product defects to other agencies responsible for patient health."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
