Dear Sandeep,
This week, Congressman Raja joined Congressman Gallagher on FOX News to discuss their work as the respective top Democrat and Republican on the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. When asked about the CCP's motives, Congressman Raja explained, "They are trying to change what is acceptable in terms of our international norms. Of course, we and our allies, and partners and friends around the world are trying to protect freedom, are trying to protect liberty, are trying to cultivate the conditions for democracy and free enterprise...that's really what is at stake, and that's why the Chairman and I are determined to steer this committee in a bipartisan fashion." Later in the discussion, the Congressman said, "Us shining a light on the genocide of millions of Uyghur people and their culture is absolutely essential but also provides hope to them that we can bring about some change...We as Americans are impacted by this in so many ways as well...including the fact that they have perfected a techno-surveillance state with regard to the Uyghurs which they're trying to export elsewhere, including to the United States."
On Monday, Congressman Raja appeared on CNN to discuss Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia. Referring to the possibility of the CCP providing lethal aid to Russia, Congressman Raja said, "I think it's fair to say there's a deep level of concern about the Chinese Communist Party considering doing this. It would really escalate the war, and President Xi has to recognize that there would be immediate sanctions—not only from the United States but from European countries that he is trying to court to revive his economy, so we would respectfully tell him: don't go down this path." When discussing his leadership on the House Select Committee on the CCP, the Congressman told them, "We don't seek a war. We don't seek a cold war, or a hot war, or any hostilities of any kind with the People's Republic of China. However, we do need to protect our interests as Americans, and we also need to deter any aggression by the CCP towards us, and our friends, our allies, our partners."
On Sunday, Congressman Raja joined Martha Raddatz and Congressman Mike Gallagher on ABC's This Week to discuss the national security risks of TikTok. The Congressman said, "In this particular case, we have to recognize that while TikTok is another social media app, and we have a generalized concern about social media apps, it's different in kind from any other social media app because its parent company is beholden to the Chinese Communist Party. That is why on a bipartisan basis, we've banned TikTok from all federal devices. That's why the FBI Director, the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA Director, and the entire intelligence community believe this is a severe risk to our national security and we have to deal with it."
