Dear {First Name or 'Friend'},
We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.
This week, Congressman Raja joined Lisa Dent on WGN Radio to discuss the U.S. Surface Transportation Board's approval of the merger of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern freight railroads, which is poised to drastically increase freight traffic in the Chicago suburbs. The Congressman told Lisa, "We have got to continue to fight. I'm not giving up the ghost. It feels like even in the midst of one of the worst derailments in East Palestine that caused tremendous problems in a rural area, the STB rushed to a decision with regard to a merger that would affect one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. It's like they are not letting the facts get in the way of their decision. They are rushing to judgement and we're going to explore all options at this point."
On Monday, Congressman Raja appeared on WLS Radio to discuss the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. When asked if the White House will protect the general public from the collapse, the Congressman said, "We can't bail out investors, that's something that we learned a long time ago—it doesn't work for the American people and we shouldn't do that. Depositors, people who put their money in the bank, or small businesses that put their money in the bank [should be protected]. You just don't expect that money to be at risk, especially when you need to make payroll next week. It's really important that we avoid this type of situation and we scrutinize bank assets more carefully so we can avoid this problem again."
On Thursday, Congressman Raja presented Elgin Community College with $936,000 in federal funding for its new mechatronics and automation program. The Congressman said, "ECC is one of the jewels in the crown of community colleges that bless our state and one of the finest in the country...What you are doing here is creating the next generation of folks who will enable America to take increased leadership in STEM fields. We know we have a shortage in this area, and you are helping to fill the vacancies that exist today in the mechatronics and automation workforce."
We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
