Raja Update 3/17

Dear Sandeep,

On Monday, Congressman Raja joined Spotlight on America to discuss tightening health and safety standards on baby food. He said, "At the end of the day, our parents, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, they all believe that government has a role in regulating food safety, especially for our babies and children."

Also on Monday, Congressman Raja published an opinion piece in the Chicago Tribune defending the United States Postal Service from Trump's privatization plan. He said, "In many small communities across Illinois and elsewhere, the post office is a center for local news and social activity. Losing their post offices could literally take these communities off the map."

On Tuesday, Congressman Raja published an opinion piece in Newsweek admonishing Trump's silence on protecting Medicaid. He said, "More than 3.4 million Illinoisans rely on Medicaid ... pregnant mothers, seniors in nursing homes, children, and people with disabilities ... would bear the brunt of these cuts."

On Wednesday, Congressman Raja joined CNN's One Thing podcast to discuss Trump's plan to destroy the Department of Education. He said, "[Trump] is causing pain and shutting things down right now, regardless of the will of the people… he announced he's going to abolish the Department of Education. Are you kidding me? This is the kind of nonsense we're seeing come out of the White House."

Later on Wednesday, Congressman Raja joined Lisa Dent on WGN Radio to continue defending the Department of Education from Trump. He said, "Rural areas of Illinois and urban areas... receive $800 million to $1 billion [from the Department of Education]. When you don't have people to administer these programs... these schools are going to suffer and our students are going to suffer."

On Thursday, Congressman Raja joined Meidas Touch to discuss the disastrous Trump Administration and its fiscal policies. He said, "One of the worst things I've heard… [Trump's Commerce Secretary] Howard Lutnick said that we should go into a recession. Can you believe that? That somehow going into a recession would be a good thing for America..? We need to get back to basics here."

On Friday, Congressman Raja published an opinion piece in The Hill praising American tech innovation. He said, "The Chinese communists have no answer for America's innovation, disruption, and responsible regulation. If we embrace the opportunity to lead in blockchain innovation, our prosperity and security can be safeguarded for the next generation."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
