I just got back from Texas, and I’m still fired up.
Yesterday, I joined a huge crowd of volunteers and neighbors to get out the vote for Gina Hinojosa, Dexter McCoy, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, and Jon Rosenthal, amongst others. The energy was unreal.
Before I tell you why this race matters so much, chip in $10 or $40 to Equal Opportunity Now and help us keep showing up like this.
Here’s why we were there, and why I was so proud to be supporting Jon Rosenthal in particular:
A few weeks ago, Bo French posted a photo of University of Texas students celebrating their team’s win and wrote that “the problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.” Those students are Americans, and many were born in Texas. French called them “foreigners” and said Americans were being “displaced.”
When folks told French to take down the post, he refused. Then he used the backlash to raise money.
I know what it’s like to be told you don’t belong. A sitting elected official once called me a “foreign occupier.” I’ve seen where this kind of hate can lead, and I will never stay quiet about it. Not in Illinois. Not in Texas. Not anywhere.
That’s what Equal Opportunity Now is about. We stand up to bigotry no matter where it shows up. We show up on the ground, we knock the doors, and we make our voices heard.
This race is a dead heat, and Republicans haven’t lost a statewide race in Texas in more than three decades. With a little over a week left, every volunteer, every door, and every dollar counts.
A crowd like that doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people decide to show up. Chip in $10 or $40 right now and help us keep showing up in Texas and other battlegrounds across the country.
