Raja Update 9/6

Dear Friend,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Raja appeared on CNN to discuss the state of the FBI's investigation into classified documents that President Trump kept at his Mar-A-Lago estate. When asked for his thoughts on Trump's attorney's  comparison of the classified documents to "overdue library books," the Congressman said, "I've never seen an overdue library book marked 'Top Secret,' and certainly I've never seen a library book subject to a subpoena where the person receiving it refused to comply. And that's exactly what you have here: you have 320 classified documents recovered by the FBI in the possession of President Trump at Mar-A-Lago that he refused to turn over for months, and that is nothing akin to an overdue library book situation."

On Sunday, Congressman Raja joined Ali Velshi on MSNBC to discuss the ongoing developments of the Mar-A-Lago investigation and Trump's dangerous messaging to his supporters. When Velshi brought up Trump's messaging and his promise to pardon January 6th rioters, the Congressman replied, "He has gone full MAGA at this point. He has decided that he's going to deny that he's committed any wrongdoing or call what he did in terms of wrongdoing justified, and he's going to get people so riled up in his corner, that I fear that they're going to commit violence. And this potential use of political violence is even more dangerous to our republic right now." When asked for his insight on the Mar-A-Lago investigation as a member of the House Intelligence Committee, the Congressman emphasized, "I think the biggest theme here is how do we guard our national security... We're conducting a damage assessment with regard to how those documents may have damaged our national security and what we can do to mitigate that and prevent it from happening in the future."

Recently, Congressman Raja sounded the alarm on rising crypto fraud, demanding answers from regulators on what they're doing to protect consumers. In his role as Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, Congressman Raja sent letters to regulators and crypto industry leaders on what they're doing to prevent abuse as consumers are projected to lose over $1 billion this year. "Without clear definitions and guidance, agencies will continue their infighting and will be unable [to effectively] implement consumer and investor protections."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
