Dear Sandeep,
On Monday, Raja joined Rachel Maddow on MSNBC's Maddow to discuss his work to hold Jeffrey Epstein accountable for his horrible crimes. Raja said, "We met for two and half hours with survivors of the Epstein abuse and sex trafficking ring, and you know these people were real life people who suffered tremendous abuse and trauma at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein. More than 1,000 girls may have been victimized. So to see these men kind of talk about these women in this way is especially disgusting in light of what we've learned now."
Later that evening, he joined John Berman on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 to discuss Epstein further. When asked about the recently-released card including Donald Trump's apparent signature, Raja said, "I haven't talked to anyone around here who doubts that that's Donald Trump's signature or drawing… look, the note is so vulgar but I think the bigger issue here is that after sitting with the survivors of the Epstein abuse case for two and a half hours last week, many of us feel that for the sake of justice, transparency and preventing this from ever happening again, we need the full Epstein files. This note just confirms that we need the full production of files now more than ever."
On Tuesday, Raja sent a letter to Secretary of Energy Chris Wright urging immediate action to address skyrocketing utility costs and Trump Administration's inaction. In his letter, Raja warned that, "Illinoisans will face an average utility rate hike of $180 per year starting in 2026. Around the country, utility companies are set to increase electricity rates this year by more than $38 billion, affecting more than 57 million Americans. These costs are only projected to rise, with residential electricity rates increasing steadily by as much as 18% over the next few years. As costs rise in every sector, this is a burden that working families simply cannot afford."
Later that day, when talking to CI Proud's Cameron Maine about the letter, Raja said, "We have to make sure that these tax credits are back in place. I think that right now it is crazy that people are having to pay so much more for energy bills."
On Thursday, Raja spoke to WQAD ABC 8's Maddie Franz about why electricity bills are increasing in Illinois, and how he's addressing the problem head-on. Raja explained that the cancellation of solar and wind projects were partially to blame, which are a result of Trump's cuts to energy grants. Raja said, "[These projects] would have provided vital supplies of energy at a time when we could use them… through repeal of the tax credits that support these projects, we are basically hampering our ability to bring lower cost power to Americans."
On Sunday, Raja traveled to Joliet to talk with Will County families about how Trump's tariffs are hurting Illinois families and small businesses. Raja called Trump's tariffs a "tax on working families" and the worst thing for the affordability crisis in the U.S.
We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
