Raja Update 9/25

Dear Sandeep,

On Tuesday, Raja joined Host Rebecca Quick on CNBC's Squawk Box Today to discuss the Trump Administration's claims of a potential deal over the sale of TikTok and detachment from the CCP. When asked on his take on where the U.S. stands with TikTok right now, and what a potential framework might look like, Raja responded, "We need a deal ASAP. As long as ByteDance's ownership of TikTok is less than 20%,  and there's no operations control, or an operational relationship between TikTok USA and ByteDance, let's go forward with a deal. We welcome it, and obviously that was because of the law that overwhelmingly passed in Congress on a bipartisan basis, and that got upheld unanimously by the Supreme Court."

On Wednesday, Raja joined WGN's Lisa Dent to discuss the Chicagoland ICE raids that have become "a spectacle . . . they are hurting real people, they are hurting communities." When asked about the video that Kristi Noem posted on social media of a U.S. citizen under arrest because of an ICE raid, Raja said, "This is exactly why Lisa, we can't have these types of raids happening. I think now what we're seeing is Steven Miller, a gentleman who works for the President in the White House, has set a quota for ICE for arresting 3,000 people per day, and it appears that it doesn't really matter who the heck these people are. They could be legal residents, they could even be citizens, and now it's getting absolutely ridiculous and it's outrageous what's happening."

Later that day, Raja introduced the 988 LGBTQ+ Youth Access Act of 2025, bipartisan legislation to ensure dedicated, trained support remains available to LGBTQ+ youth who contact the 988 crisis line. "America's youth mental health crisis is real, and LGBTQ+ young people are at significantly higher risk," said Raja."The 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline must always meet them with affirming, specialized care, not busy signals or generic referrals. Our bill locks in the trained counselors and resources these teens need in the darkest moments of their lives, so a text, call, or chat to 988 reaches someone who understands and can help. This is about saving lives, and it should remain above politics."

On Thursday, Raja joined Anchor Jim Sciutto on CNN International to discuss FCC Chair Carr Brendan driving the suspension of The Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show. In response to Carr's quote "We can do this the easy way, or the hard way" Raja responded, "It feels like mafia coercion, and I think that that is a textbook example of state action impinging on free speech rights, and I think it's unconstitutional. I think it's illegal. And so, today we moved to actually bring Brendan Carr before the committee – I'm talking about the Oversight Democrats. It lost on a vote of 24 to 21 on a part line vote. However, Mr. Comer and Mr. Garcia, our Ranking Member, agreed to bring him in anyway at a later date because a lot of people have questions for him. I personally think we need to bring sunshine and transparency to the situation, and if necessary I think Congress needs to step in and Democrats need to do whatever we can to hold him accountable, including potentially holding up his funding."

On Friday, Raja spoke with KHQA's Cassie Schoene about his efforts to tackle the rising cost of energy in Illinois, and how working to bring prices down for Quincy families. "The reason why electricity prices are going up is because that clean energy is not being allowed to come online, not that it exists," said Raja. "It doesn't make any sense to remove electricity or the supply of electricity from the grid. That is just a dumb policy. We need as much supply as possible to drive down prices."

That evening, Raja joined Ali Velshi on MSNBC's The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell to discuss the Acosta deposition & ongoing Epstein investigation. When Lawrence asked Raja if he believed Alex Acosta knew he did something wrong, or truly was incompetent having not read the victim's statements or thought it was a case worth pursuing, Raja responded "First of all, I think it was both. I think he did something wrong in terms of not even really looking at the victim's statements, examining the voluminous evidence – there were over 40 minors that were willing to testify. And so to say that somehow evidence was flimsy, or that the case was weak, kind of defies logic. I don't think there was a weak case; there was a weak prosecutor, Ali, and I think that at this point, his defiant, unremorseful demeanor also simply suggests that we need to do more digging."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's efforts to stand up to Trump and fight for Illinois.
