Here’s what happened this week. Fetterman went on CNN and laid out his “red line”: if the Democratic Party officially opposes aid to Israel, he’s out. Then FEC filings surfaced showing he’d co-launched “Common Ground PA” — a joint fundraising PAC with Republican Sen. Dave McCormick. A new Quinnipiac poll found that a majority of registered Pennsylvania Democrats now want him to leave the party. This is the Citizens United problem made visible. When dark money can flow in without disclosure limits, it doesn’t just buy elections — it reshapes the politicians we elected after they’re in office. Whether it’s a joint PAC with the opposition or something harder to trace, the mechanism is always the same: outside money moves the incentives, and the politician follows.
The only fix that actually holds: the 28th Amendment. 22 states have passed resolutions. We need 38. Every dollar we raise funds organizing in the 16 states still on the table — so that money like this can’t keep rewriting who our elected officials actually work for. |
