I've seen leaders come and go. I've watched some rise to the moment and others shrink from it. And after all these years, I can tell you that I know a fighter when I see one.
Raja Krishnamoorthi is a fighter.
As Speaker of the House, I appointed Raja, my dear friend and extraordinary colleague, to the Intelligence Committee, where he helped to keep our country safe and helped lead the impeachment of Donald Trump. I also appointed Raja to the Special Select Oversight Subcommittee responsible for taking on price-gouging pharmaceutical companies, investigating COVID scams and lowering healthcare costs. I worked with Raja for a decade in standing up to Big Tobacco, the gun lobby and many others who prioritize profit over our children’s health and safety.
And I watched Raja face down hatred and bigotry that would have broken a lesser person — and come back stronger every single time.
So when Raja told me he was launching Equal Opportunity Now — a new group dedicated to finding and supporting the next generation of Democratic leaders and priorities — I didn't hesitate. This is exactly what this moment demands.
Because let me be clear about what we are facing:
Donald Trump and his MAGA extremists are a danger to our Constitution, our children and our Democracy. Full stop.
They are actively working to dismantle the institutions that are the foundation of our government of, by and For The People. They are stripping away the safety net that millions of working families depend on to give massive tax breaks to their ultra rich MAGA donors on the backs of vulnerable Americans. And they are counting on us to be too tired, too divided or too discouraged to stop them.
They don't know us very well, do they? We don’t agonize — we organize!
I have spent decades building the Democratic infrastructure it takes to win — to take back the House, to protect our majorities and to deliver For the People. That is the ongoing work of my PAC to the Future. And Raja is building the bench of bold, battle-tested leaders who will carry this fight forward for decades to come with Equal Opportunity Now.
