Picture a voter who almost stays home.
They voted in the last presidential election. They don’t love Donald Trump. But midterms never feel as big, they’re working two jobs, and nobody has asked them to vote this year. If nothing changes, they’ll sit this one out.
Multiply that example by millions, and you have the most important group of voters in this election.
In 2024, more than 155 million votes were cast. In a typical midterm, closer to 100 million people show up. That means tens of millions of Americans who vote for president skip the midterms, and a lot of them would vote for Democrats if they voted at all.
Republicans are counting on those voters staying home. Our job is to make sure they don’t.
That’s what our team at Equal Opportunity Now is focused on right now: getting Democratic voters to the polls, especially the ones who usually sit midterms out. Reminding them an election is happening. Helping them make a plan. Making sure they know where to go and when.
It isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t make headlines. You won’t see it in a TV ad. But I’ve been in close races, and I can tell you this is where they’re decided.
When a race comes down to a few hundred votes, these are the voters who decide it. Every one we reach could be the difference between a seat we flip and a seat we lose.
Chip in $15 or $45 right now and help us reach the voters who’ll decide this election, the ones who won’t show up unless somebody asks.
