Raja Update 6/13

Dear Friend,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy. We also hope you had a terrific holiday weekend.

This week, the Congressman was interviewed by CNN regarding the testimony of the victims of the Uvalde shooting and their families. Asked about his thoughts on their testimony, Congressman Raja said: "It was about as emotional a moment as you're ever going to find on Capitol Hill, and you could just hear a pin drop at that moment. I think they opened up some hearts at that time."

Raja also joined WGN radio to discuss the victims testimony and what we can do going forward to prevent this from happening again. "I really sensed that for a moment peoples' hearts and minds opened up to take in what we were hearing from the witnesses...The hope is that people will be willing to consider some of the measures that the witnesses as well as other experts testified about."

Congressman Raja was also interviewed by MSNBC to discuss the January 6th hearings and his experiences from that fateful day. "It was one of the most insidious acts that a President could take. I had a chance to question acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller with regards to the delayed response of the DC National Guard and other law enforcement authorities while the insurrection was going on. There was about a 3 hour gap from when people requested help to when it finally arrived. Now we know that Trump's inaction led to that particular situation. That was a deliberate attempt to keep the National Guard from putting the riot down, and that's the biggest dereliction of duty that you could possibly imagine."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
