Just months before the 2026 midterm elections, the independent agency responsible for helping states administer secure and accessible elections has been left without a single commissioner.

Donald Trump has effectively cleared out the leadership of a bipartisan election agency immediately before voters head to the polls.
For months, Trump and his MAGA allies have been pushing legislation that would make it harder for millions of eligible Americans to register and vote.
When they could not force their voter suppression agenda through Congress, they began searching for other ways to change our elections from the top down.
Now they are dismantling one of the very agencies responsible for supporting election officials, certifying voting systems, distributing election-security resources, and helping Americans participate in our democracy.
They are not even pretending to value independence or bipartisanship anymore.
Let’s be honest about what is happening here.
Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are not focused on earning the trust of more voters. They are focused on consolidating power and changing the rules before the next election.
That should alarm every American, regardless of party.
Our elections do not belong to Donald Trump.
They do not belong to the White House.
They belong to The People.
