Celebrating the Memory of Dr. King

Dear Sandeep,

Today, we honor the great service and sacrifice of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It is difficult to overstate the legacy of Dr. King, whose work was so instrumental to the civil rights movement, but it is also difficult to overstate the ongoing relevance and importance of his work today.

This year, we have seen historic protests against racial disparities in police misconduct...we have seen white supremacists attack our Capitol...and we have also seen Rev. Raphael Warnock, the leader of Dr. King's church, become Georgia's first black Senator. Through it all, we have seen that the civil rights movement is far from over.

While many of us will be home on this holiday, I encourage you to not only reflect on the amazing life of Martin Luther King Jr., but to also take time to decide what positive change you can bring to your community. We live in a time of division and turbulence that many of us never thought possible, and it's never been more important to start taking action to create the positive change that we desperately need.

Thank you for your service, and wishing everyone a safe and healthy MLK Day.
