Raja Update 7/11

Dear Friend,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Raja visited the Polish-Ukrainian border to see firsthand the efforts underway to help the Ukrainian people, and he spoke to MSNBC about it: "I was struck by the remarkable and rapid deployment of the sophisticated weapons systems that we've shipped to the Ukranians in their fight against the Russians" he told MSNBC host Ali Velshi. "The Ukranians have to continue to receive the support that we've sent them so far, and then some, so that they can do everything they can to make this particular war as painful for the Russians as possible", he continued. "I think the Ukranians have high morale on their side, and the Russians do not, quite frankly."

The Congressman also responded to the devastating shooting at Highland Park's Independence Day parade: "I feel deep pain, sadness, and anger for the families of the deceased and the injured. I'm also deeply grateful to the first responders who came to the aid of the victims and the law enforcement who are conducting a manhunt for the shooter" the Congressman said in a statement on Monday. "What was supposed to be a celebration of our freedom and unity today turned into yet another bloody massacre," he added. "This reminds us that until we have the sensible, nationwide regulation of firearms, nowhere and nobody is truly safe."

Congressman Raja is working with local lawmakers to file an objection to Canadian Pacific Railway's plan to merge with the Kansas City Southern railroad. If approved, the merger would increase daily CP freight traffic from 3 to 11 trains per day in the suburbs he represents, while Metra estimates that commuter train delays would increase by 1200%. Raja said, "(The railroads) have got to significantly do a rethink on this, because it'll just be explosive if they don't," Congressman Raja told the Daily Herald last week. "They're huge entities, and their perception is that regulatory authorities in Washington DC are going to do their bidding. They need to rethink their assumptions."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
