Trump's war with Iran isn't just costing lives and driving up gas prices. It's draining the actual weapons America needs to deter a far more dangerous conflict — with China.
Here's what I laid out. The United States has reportedly burned through almost half of its global supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles. We've used "virtually all" of our Army Tactical Missile Systems and Precision Strike Missiles. Patriot missile stockpiles are down by two-thirds. THAAD interceptors are down by half. Defense planners call this "magazine depth" — and ours is disappearing faster than we can rebuild it.
Why does that matter beyond Iran? Because America's entire strategy for preventing war with China depends on Beijing believing that aggression will fail. That deterrence only works if our military capability, our alliances, and our resolve are visibly intact. Every missile we burn through in an open-ended, strategy-free war with Iran is a missile we don't have if a real crisis erupts in the Pacific.
I made the case plainly: We are sliding toward a war we are not prepared for, while distracted by one we never needed to fight this way.
Here's the thing, though. Writing the op-ed matters. Getting the argument right matters. But none of it changes anything by itself.
What actually changes this is electing Democrats who will demand accountability, follow through on real oversight, and have the backbone to stand up to reckless, strategy-free warmongering — not just write about it, but do something about it in Washington.
That's exactly why I built Equal Opportunity Now. We need leaders in office who understand that real strength means knowing when to stop, not just how to escalate.
Writing about the danger isn't enough — we need people in power who'll act on it. $25 or $50, right now.
